We were so excited and blessed to have our friends from Isaan to come for a visit. We've been working with Reirai and her family for four summers now. We travel to her village every summer to conduct a basketball and English camp. This is the second time they have come to visit, and we're thankful that they come to spend the time with us in addition to seeing the sites of our province. Rei told me that her husband Niyom rarely wants to visit the same place twice so we feel special to have had them for a second time.
They were supposed to arrive on Sunday evening, but they had farm work to finish up before they could get away. So they arrived Monday afternoon, and we spent some time catching up before they headed off to the city for Loi Krathong.
We weren't able to go with them to the city, but that was ok since they had their own vehicle this time. They went downtown to see how our city celebrates Loi Krathong since it's one of the biggest celebrations in Thailand.
They didn't spend a long time there because it turned chilly and rainy. They had time to send up a few lanterns.
Pawn said they saw a total of two floats from the parade before they headed back to the house.
The next morning they were off to Doi Suthep. This time Rei's father also ventured out with them. They visited the temple and went beyond.
The higher they went on the mountains, the more the weather changed. They had a foggy, rainy day, but they really enjoyed it. They said the weather was perfect!
They also visited the Bhubing Palace which is a seasonal residence for the royal family. Then they continued up the mountain to visit a hill tribe village.
The next day they invited me to go with them. We stopped at the hot springs to relax and boil some eggs.
The closer we were to the spring the hotter the water was. I could barely keep my feet in, and I love hot water! The boys were so excited to boil the eggs they couldn't keep from taking the eggs out too early.
We ended the afternoon with a quick trip to the market so they could buy souvenirs for their friends and a good game of dominoes before our evening ESL class. Then after class we went to Kaimook's family's house for supper. We had a great time with our guests although I stress too much about having national guests in my house. I'm always worried that we won't host them in a proper way, but it always turns out well. We usually have repeat guests!
