Opportunities to Share

I've been teaching the neighborhood ESL class for a couple of weeks now. These kids are great students, and I really enjoy teaching them. Last year we had a lot more students, but this smaller group has been really committed. It's still a hit and a miss with some of them because it's summer break, but we usually end up with half a dozen.

We spent the second week talking about food which led to a discussion of how to request things politely. So on Thursday night I made some of the food for the kids to try and for them to practice asking for more and saying thank you. I think they enjoyed it.

After class finished our neighbor from across the street came over to talk to Rusty about schooling options for his three and a half year old daughter. They have her in a bilingual school but are not happy with the amount of English she is getting. They are considering sending her to an international school, but they are worried about her cultural identity. Religion and cultural identity are pretty much inseparable here. Please pray that we will get more opportunities to talk with him. We seriously discussed his different options, and we also talked about a relationship with Jesus Christ being different from a religion or cultural identity. We look forward to spending more time with them in the future.

Sometimes it seems strange to us what people want to talk to us about and what they would like our opinions on. Pray for us as we try to be available to the people and bold in our witness.
