We showed up last week to finish the registration on the truck. We went back to the outside shop hoping they could inspect the truck since I had found the receipt showing we owned the camper. However, they couldn't do it. We had to do it at the DMV. I think we both knew that was what needed to happen, but sometimes we're stubborn and try to do it a different way just to see.
The line was out of the gate and down the road a bit for the inspections so we decided to go to the home improvement store first, and then it was time for lunch. We met a friend who works with SIL who now works in the Isaan region as we were leaving so we stopped to talk to him for a while. We like to talk so it was a bit before we made it to the line at the DMV.
We finally made out way around to the back of the building to the inspection garage. They had a setup. Rusty said they were ready for all kinds of checks, but they just weighed our truck. I guess they had to update it after putting the camper on.
We waited for them to update the paperwork and then it was on to window 7 after a quick trip upstairs to make copies of Rusty's passport and work permit. The lady at the desk made sure that my paperwork was in order and sent me to window 7. The man was a bit gruff and wouldn't talk to me, but the lady followed me to the window. She told him my paperwork was in order so I put it in the basket and sat down to wait.
He finally called Rusty's name and told us we had to talk to the lady at the desk behind him which was his supervisor. After talking with us a moment, she decided we didn't have to talk to her since we had the receipt for the camper. If the guy had talked to us just a bit he could have found out we had the receipt. Oh well...we waited for a few more minutes then he was finished. He told us to come back on the 17th for our updated registration book and sent us down to pay our taxes. We paid our vehicle tax and were out the door in plenty of time to make it home for the evening ESL class.
I can go pick up the book tomorrow, and I definitely need to ask what the procedure will be for next year. Although this is Thailand, it could all change before I even get there tomorrow.
