We celebrated the 4th of July a day early here. Since the consulate had their celebration a day early, we figured it was legal to celebrate on the 3rd. Since we had a meeting planned on the 4th and babysitting for the 5th, we changed our plans just a bit. We were going to buy hot dogs and have some Wolf brand chili I have hidden in the back of the cabinet, but we didn't have time to buy the grill that we've been looking at for months. So we had fried fish instead. We didn't go to the consulate this year because last year was such a disappointment to us. We did get some hot dogs, but no Dr Pepper! Speaking of which...I'm starting to suffer from withdrawals after 5 months. Oh well..
We also had red, white, and blue cupcakes for dessert. Rusty thought they were good. I used my Mama's (Grandma) recipe with a buttercream frosting. This cake brings back good childhood memories. My mom would make it, and we would have different toppings for it. Sometimes it would be homemade chocolate sauce, and sometimes it would be an egg custard. So good!
