Ok...so it's been almost 4 months since my last entry. I could give you the usual excuses about being busy and such, but I'll spare you. I will give you a brief synopsis of what's been going on. Then hopefully I'll return to regularly blogging about our life here.
At the end of September I returned to the States for a week to visit with my parents. My dad had already been put on hospice care, and we weren't sure about waiting until November for a visit. I took off by myself and did the whole trip well. I had a good visit although it was a very short one.
A few days after my return our pastor and his wife came for their visit. We had so much fun with them. They were great guests. We took off for a few days and traveled north a bit to see some pretty scenery, the opium museum, shopping at the border, and just relaxing. We also went to the elephant camp with them and of course shopping in the city. They like to shop, and so do we! During their visit, I also finished up my first Master's class at the university. I'm very happy with my B+. I had to work harder for it than any A I've ever made!
They left, and the next day Rusty left on a teaching trip in the eastern part of the country. I barely got all of his lessons together, but I think he had enough to get him through the trip.
After he got home, I went to America again. I left at the beginning of the month and got to spend some really good time with Dad and Mom. The week before he passed away was a really good week. We had lots of fun together watching Jeopardy, world news, and other reruns. We cannot forget about Hogan's Heroes and the Andy Griffith Show. :) Dad went home to be with the Lord on November 29. Rusty had made it in a few days earlier, and Dad felt better after knowing he had seen everyone. What a blessing and comfort to know that he is with Jesus now...pain free, cancer free, and totally at peace.
We stayed in the States through Christmas giving me almost 2 months in the States and Rusty 1. We didn't need to stay longer because it was not a regularly scheduled furlough for us. It was harder to leave this time, but we have lots of good memories. Spending time with our families is always a special blessing.
We had a couple of Micah sayings while we were there. Rusty was trying to get him to say who his favorite uncle was. Rusty named all of Micah's uncles...on both sides of the family. Finally Micah answered...drum roll please...Aunt Susan! :) I'm not used to topping lists like that so I'll take what I can get. I think Micah is one pretty smart nephew if I do say so myself. One day he came out wearing mittens and said to Rusty, "Look, I've got muffins." To really do it right when you tell it, you have to hold your hands out in front of you like you have on mittens and wiggle your thembs back and forth.
I'll close this update blog for now. Check back for more new posts in the near future.
