Thai learning rolls on
We went and did a little grocery shopping today. Thai grocery stores always have some kind of promotion going on, and it's quite fun to see what you can get for free. We've gotten free dish towels, glasses, pencil bags, and other items. Today, we saw a 6 pack of paper towels which had a promotion. We read that if you buy 6 rolls, you get 1 pack free. We were excited...thinking it was a great deal! We didn't know the word for roll, but we were able to match the word on the package with the promotion sign. We were feeling quite proud of ourselves and loaded up two packs into the buggy. When I finished with the checkout lane, the checker told me to go to the promotion counter to claim my free stuff. I thought oh great...I'm going to end up with 4 packs of paper towels because I didn't know I was supposed to go to the promotion counter. Mind you, this had already happened to me one time with juice. I picked up two thinking buy one get one...and ended up with four boxes. I consoled myself with the thought that this was going to be a really good deal on the paper towels and they would keep. I'm waiting with great anticipation...the guy at the promotion counter even announced excitedly I was getting the Scott paper towel promotion. And then...the girl hands me two rolls of toilet paper. It was not what I was expecting at all, but I realized that since the rolls were wrapped separately I did indeed receive two packs. This brought back great memories of my first time at the promotion counter when I received two small juice boxes. Will I never learn??? I walked out that day like a champion smiling broadly about my free juice. I did the same today with my toilet paper. Life is fun in Thailand.
